Tuesday Crimson Tide Tidbits. Ingram OK,Dunlap Fl DE Arrested

Junior defensive end Carlos Dunlap, 20, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. by Gainesville Police Officer Robert Rogers at the signal light at Southwest Second Avenue and Southwest 34th Street.

Mark Ingram practiced Monday afternoon after sustaining a hip pointer against Auburn.
"It feels good," he said earlier Monday afternoon. "I kind of bruised it in the game, but it feels better. So I'll be ready for Saturday, most definitely.Coach Saban gave the team an extra day off during the weekend, which Ingram called "huge."

Senior Cory Reamer aggravated a hamstring strain against Chattanooga and wasn't able to practice much last week.

"We thought he would be ok," Saban said. "But he wasn't able to practice a lot, so (safety) Ali (Sharrief) ended up taking a lot of the snaps in the nickel. So when we got to the game, Cory thought he was ok, but we had to make a decision of how do we manage the guy to get through the game."

Junior linebacker Rolando McClain was named the Southeastern Conference defensive player of the week on Monday.

Cody 5 Was the Name of the Winning Crimson Tide Play vs the Tigers 2009

Cody-5 is the winning play Alabama's coaching staff called on the winning touchdown. The Tide lined up in a goal-line formation with defensive tackle Terrence Cody playing his role as a fullback/blocker.

But instead of running the ball , as Alabama has done all season out of that formation ,quarterback Greg McElroy faked the handoff, rolled right and fired a quick pass to Upchurch for the touchdown.

Cody-5. As in Terrence Cody and Upchurch's jersey number is 5.

"Hey, if Daniel Moore wants to make a painting of it, I'm his man," said Upchurch.

Such an unlikely star in such a big game, Upchurch -- a senior from Tallahassee, Fla. ,had only touched the ball just once in Alabama's previous 66 plays. He's Alabama's third-string tailback who has battled injuries throughout his career.

"I was just ready," Upchurch said when the coaches called his suggested "Cody-5" play. "I was just ready to get in the end zone, put points on the board and get out of here."

On third-and-3 at the Auburn 4, Alabama originally called for a running play. And if the play did not result in a touchdown, Leigh Tiffin could kick a very short field goal for the lead.

But coach Nick Saban did not want a field goal that would only put them up by 2. He called a timeout, told his coaches he wanted to throw a pass and somebody finally heard Upchurch screaming for "Cody-5."

"As soon as I got the play call I was like 'We're gonna throw it?'" said McElroy. "But I loved the play call. It was something we'd really been hitting on."

As Upchurch ran his route, he said an Auburn defender grabbed his facemask and "I was just panicking. I had to find the ball and I did just that."

Until that pass, Alabama had run 812 plays this season and Upchurch had touched the ball on just 50 of them. Playing behind Heisman hopeful Mark Ingram and freshman sensation Trent Richardson, Upchurch's opportunities are rare.

But Upchurch's last touch in his last regular season game, well, maybe Moore will immortalize it.

"It doesn't get any bigger, really, than scoring the winning touchdown for the Iron Bowl," senior Brandon Deaderick said. "He did a great job when he got his chance. He really stood out."

Sports Illustrated has confirmed rumors that Alabama tailback Mark Ingram does indeed appear on the cover of this week's issue

Tuesday Crimson Tide Tidbits ..

Because this year's Crimson Tide vs Tigers being played on Friday instead of Saturday, everything had to be moved up practice-wise, so the Crimson Tide started preparing for the Tigers on Sunday instead of taking a day off. Television made a bad decision.
Someone at CBS apparently forgot that Alabama-Auburn is one of the country's best rivalry games.

Auburn is coming off a bye and has the advantage of playing at home.

"I think it helps probably more physically more than anything," senior left guard Mike Johnson. "No matter whom the next opponent is you're still going to be running the same plays and trying to defend the same plays for the most part. Just having that extra week to get your legs back under you is going to be huge for them (Auburn), and I know they're excited. They're a good football team. We're going to have to work that much harder."

Crimson Tide vs UTC Tidbits.

Kickoff scheduled for 11:21 a.m. Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. If (when) the Tide can pull away early,Mark Ingram will sit, so the sophomore RB must make the most of his limited carries. Maybe we will get to see a lot of Roy Upchurch on Senior Day.

Greg McElroy on the Tides' Seniors:

"Time flies by," Crimson Tide junior quarterback Greg McElroy said. "I can't believe this is their last game. We're going to try to take care of business just for those guys. They deserve it. They've given a lot back to this program. It'd be good to go out with a convincing and quality win."

"It's going to be pretty emotional," senior left guard Mike Johnson said. "Once again, we're just going to try to come out and, first of all, get a victory, but just share in that moment with some guys that have been here a while and my parents. It's going to be pretty special. Hopefully, we can just go out with a bang."

Crimson Tide vs Auburn on a rare Friday Night & Tidbits for Friday

Next Monday will be Tuesday for the Alabama football team. That's what Alabama coach Nick Saban said Thursday on his weekly radio show. Auburn has a bye week so it has 2 weeks to prepare for the Tide. Saban said he will move the team's schedule up one day, but he still will not hold a Sunday practice. Instead, players and coaches will hold meetings on Sunday.During a normal week, Monday is not a rough practice day. The heavy contact comes on Tuesday and Wednesday. So next week, the heavy contact will be on Monday and Tuesday.

Senior nose tackle Terrence Cody was named a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy by the Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club, and junior linebacker Rolando McClain was named a finalist for the Butkus Award as linebacker of the year.

Thursday Crimson Tide Tidbits.

Crimson Tide Players review the Blind Side Movie:

"It was an outstanding movie, one of the best movies I've seen," Alabama cornerback Javier Arenas said. "Just to see Coach, he didn't recruit me, so I got a chance to see how he actually goes in someone's house and recruits. It was an interesting experience. And just the fact he was in the movie and he was sitting in the same movie theater as us is pretty fun."

Said quarterback Greg McElroy, "Sandra Bullock called him good-looking and that made us all jealous and caused even more reason to give him a hard time. ... I don't think anybody heard any lines from the time he got on the screen until he got off the screen because it was so loud with the laughing."

"It was funny, just seeing him acting a little bit," said tailback Mark Ingram, who vouched for the authenticity of the recruiting scene. "All of us that were in my (signing) class or the class before us, we got recruited by him and we heard similar things."

Coach Nick Saban believes someone needs to look into the frequency with which players' helmets are popping off this season.

"When the season's over, there are a lot of good people who are in the equipment business who probably need to address some of this," said Saban, whose star running back, Mark Ingram, needed stitches after his helmet came off during a play against Mississippi State. "Anytime player safety issues are involved, I think everyone involved in college football is always looking for a better way. I'm sure we'll do the same thing with the helmet issue."

Wednesday Crimson Tide Tidbits. Ingram news and More

Mark Ingrams'stats will not decide his role against UTC:
"We don't really worry about stats," Cocah Saban said today. "We're going to make all the decisions based on winning and what's best for our team. The most important thing to Mark Ingram is that our team has success, and he does all the things that he needs to do to help our team be successful. I think he understands that if he does that, that's going enhance his chance of having success better than anything else."

Sophomore running back Mark Ingram and junior middle linebacker Rolando McClain are among the contenders that were announced today for the Walter Camp award.

Five finalists will be announced on Dec. 2. The winner will be announced on Dec. 10.

UTC Quaterback BJ Coleman on Alabama:
"At one point, I was very interested in Alabama," Coleman said today. "They've got an unbelievable atmosphere down there. Tuscaloosa is a beautiful place. They've got a great campus, and their fans are among the elite in the country. It's going to be a lot of fun to go down there and feel that electric environment."

Crimson Tide LB Eryk Anders is good to go for UTC game. He slightly injured his ankle against MSU.Mark Ingram received five stitches above his right eye to repair a cut he picked up during Saturday's victory.

Chris Rogers on kickoff coverage mistakes:
"It won't happen again," said Chris Rogers, one of the unit's seniors. "I know everybody is concerned with the kickoff and special teams, but we're sure we're going to be ready. We're going to be ready for it in the future ... We figured it out, and worked out the wrinkles, and we're good to go."

Thursday Crimson Tide Tidbits.. Michael Williams Stepping up.

Michael Williams has done a good job for stepping in for the injured Colin Peek. He made his first career catch against Tennessee for 4 yards. He followed that up with two catches for 25 yards against LSU, including one for a 14-yard gain. His blocking has also been very good.

"Pancaking somebody and catching a touchdown really are the same importance to me," Williams said. "If you're helping the team, however you can help the team, that's what's good."

Senior linebacker Cory Reamer raves about Williams.

"He's definitely stepped up for us," Reamer said. "He's got such long arms. It's really hard to get your hands on him. He can control you however he wants to. We saw last week he has good hands, too, when he catches the ball."

Committ Phillip Sims the Number 1 rated QB tore it up last Friday he was 15 for 23 passing with 277 yards and five touchdowns as Oscar Smith completed an undefeated regular season with a 47-17 win over Great Bridge.

Cody finalist for award and Wednesday Crimson Tide Tidbits

University of Alabama senior nose tackle Terrence Cody was named one of four finalists for the Lombardi Award, which goes to the nation's top interior lineman or linebacker.

"It means a lot," said Cody . "Not a lot of guys get picked for an award like this. I'm real happy to be in the top four. It's a blessing. I'm really representing our team because you don't get honors like this unless you have success as a team."

Former Tide commit JuWuan James winds up choosing Vols. "I just felt like I fit better at Tennessee. The coaches, the players, I like that new environment". Oh well you can't get em all.

SEC's best running backs square off this Saturday. Mark Ingram (127.6 yards average) and Bulldogs' Anthony Dixon (125.1) rank first and second in the league in average yards per game.

Tight end Colin Peek (knee) and tailback Terry Grant (unspecified muscle pull) have practiced the past two days as normal and appear on path to be available for the MSU game.

Cornerback Javier Arenas was named the Southeastern Conference's defensive player for the week.Arenas recorded seven tackles including two for a loss and had a quarterback pressure during Alabama's 24-15 win over LSU on Saturday.

"It's them scheming me, not necessarily me, but what's the best fit for what that team does and it just happens," said Arenas, who is third in team tackles with 52.

Alabama's final home game against Chattanooga on Nov. 21 will kick off at 11:21 p.m. and be shown on the SEC Network.

Crimson Tide picks up top ten recruit in country!!!

Bama picked up the number one safety in the country. Rivals 5 star Keenan Allen.A 6'3",195 lbs safety who runs the 40 in 4.56 secs. He has the talent to play on either side of the ball.

Keenan on the Crimson Tide:
"Alabama has the best fans in the world, so I wanted to let them know I was going to play for them for the next four years on a special day like this one just to keep the momentum going. I had been thinking for a long time how I would announce my commitment, and I really couldn't pick a better day than this."

"Coach Saban told me that they want to play me at receiver and line me up on the other side of Julio so teams will be forced to pick someone to double-cover," Allen said. "When I committed to Coach Saban, he was so excited that you could feel it over the phone. He was happier than I have ever heard him. He just told me welcome to the Alabama family and that he hoped I was ready to go to work."

Crimson Tide Gameday Weather and Tidbits.

It will be sunny with the temperature around 74 when Alabama kicks off at 2:30 p.m. CDT today against LSU in a game at Bryant-Denny Stadium that will be televised nationally by CBS. Maybe this will be the breakout game for Alabama's Julio Jones, who has been slowed by an injury and has been constantly double covered? If LSU focuses too much on stopping star RB Mark Ingram, watch out.

It has been 27 Games since any player ran for 100 yards or more against Alabama. Ole Miss' BenJarvus Green-Ellis last did it with 131 yards on Oct. 13, 2007.

TE Colin Peek is still questionable for the game with a knee sprain.

For the third consecutive year, the winner is likely to go to the SEC championship game. With a victory, Alabama would clinch the SEC Western Division championship.

"We'll prepare for it like we do every game," said Alabama running back Mark Ingram, perhaps the game's central figure. "Of course, it's easier said than done. Everybody knows how big a game it is."

Big Time Recruits visiting for Tide vs LSU game!

Keenan Allen is considered a heavy lean to the Crimson Tide and a good visit could seal the deal. Allen is the number one safety in the country. Covers a lot of ground quickly in the secondary and has great hands. He would probably see time as a true freshman.

C.J. Mosley will also be making one of his unofficial visits to Tuscaloosa this weekend. Mosley is expected to be down to Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee with the Tide considered the front-runner. C.J. is the number three inside LB in the country.

Also visiting are Norcross defensive end Adrian Hubbard (6-foot-7, 227-pounds),Pahokee receiver Chris Dunkley (probably going to Florida),Olive Branch offensive tackle Shon Coleman(Auburn commit and Rivals 100 member, but looking at other schools.)

There will also be a ton of 2011 recruits at the game.

Wednesday Crimson Tide Tidbits.. Colin Peek news and Awards

Terrence Cody and linebacker Rolando McClain are each among the 16 semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award, which goes to the top defensive player in college football.Mark Ingram has been named one of 16 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award, honors the top overall player in college football. Javier Arenas was named one of 12 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes to the nation's best defensive back.

Senior tight end Colin Peek (sprained knee) was in uniform. He again wore a knee brace and was called day-to-day earlier in the week.

Home-field advantage rarely helps in the Alabama-LSU series where the road team has won 17 of the past 23 games. The visitors have won six of the previous eight meetings. Alabama hasn't defeated LSU in Tuscaloosa since 1999, the last time the Crimson Tide won the SEC.

Tuesday Crimson Tide Tidbits.. Ingram still out front for Heisman and more

Mark Ingram received six of 13 first-place votes and leads the Heismanpundit.com poll with 48 points, even after having the week off. Florida quarterback Tim Tebow is the only other player who received more than one first-place vote. Tebow received three and is in second place with 27 points.Heismanpundit.com polls a panel of 13 Heisman Trophy voters, who vote for five players each. A first-place vote is worth five points, a second-place vote is worth four, etc.

News on the number 4 ranked CB in the country John Fulton.
"He will take an official to Florida this weekend for their game against Vanderbilt. Then the next week he plans on going to South Carolina to watch them play Florida," said Manning coach Robbie Briggs. "After that, he should have the information he needs to make a decision. I know he is getting a little tired of the process and wants to get something done before December. He still plans on graduating early and enrolling at whatever schools he picks in January. If he wants to do that, he has some administrative things he needs to do and will have to pick fairly soon.

I personally think the Crimson Tide is in good shape with Fulton as he is blown away about all aspects of Alabama football.

Monday Crimson Tide Tidbits.. Spikes news, BCS and More

Texas replaced Alabama as the No. 2 team in the BCS. Alabama dropped to No. 3. Florida remains No. 1.

The Crimson Tide are tops in the SEC for Sacks and Sacks Allowed. We have 23 sacks and have allowed 8. LSU has 11 sacks and has given up 23. Big disparity. Their lack of a pass rush and lack of protecting the QB is what tips the scales in this game.

Coach Saban on the LSU Game:
"The game is about the players," Saban said today, "and there's a lot of good players. This is two very good teams that have good players on both sides. There's a lot to talk about in terms of what's going to happen on the field.

Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes has been suspended for the first half of their game against Vanderbilt after he attempted to gouge the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey last week. Gators coach Urban Meyer told reporters today that Spikes was retaliating for getting his eye poked earlier in the game.

Terrence Cody Print..

Birmingham artist Daniel Moore has announced that he will release a new print based on Terrence Cody's game-winning field goal block against Tennessee last weekend.

Titled "Maximum Block," Moore said it is to portray "... the maximum defensive effort given by the maximum number of players on the field, in order to preserve a win of maximum importance." And of course, there was also the "maximum" size of the player who blocked the kick.
