The Crimson Tides latest commitment for the class of 2010 is a big one - literally. Memphis-East defensive tackle Brandon Ivory gave the Tide the good news Sunday, and on Thursday morning he made the announcement official.
"I told Coach Saban Sunday that we had our own little private commitment between the two of us. I knew I wanted to go to Alabama, but I didn't want to do anything public until I talked to the coaches from Memphis first," said the 6-foot-3, 330-pound defensive tackle. "I felt like I owed them that and I sure didn't want them to find out about it in the newspapers or on the Internet. I have a lot of respect for Memphis and I will always root for my hometown team even when I am at Alabama.
"My trip to Alabama really sealed it for me. Everything about it was perfect. The campus and players and coaches are amazing. I felt at home immediately. I told Coach Saban Sunday that I was ready to play for him, and he couldn't have been prouder of my decision."
Ivory had to jump a few family hoops before making the decision official.
"My mom really wanted me close to home and that is why she liked Memphis. But when we got to Tuscaloosa, she thought that it was an outstanding opportunity for me to grow as a person and get out on my own," said Ivory. "Plus, she would have never let me go to Alabama if she didn't think Coach Saban would help develop me into a man. She really thinks highly of Coach Saban and Coach (Curt) Cignetti.
"The other deciding factor for me was the defense. I fit in better with the Crimson Tide. I am pretty much custom made for Mount (Terrence) Cody's position. I hope to get to Alabama and get a lot stronger and even quicker and have a big impact soon. I am just feeling real blessed right now."
Ivory racked up over 60 tackles and seven sacks as a senior.
No more posting till next Friday, going on a much needed vacation.
